“There are no fewer than 5 dog reiki masters in the greater Montreal region offering to help de-stress your pet using Japanese energy- healing techniques…
Last year, the 57% of Canadians who own at least 1 pet spent $6.6 billion on pet products & services...

… the Canadian pet-supply industry has climbed by an average of 4% every year since 2008 & shows no signs of slowing down…

Ben Syne is one of those entrepreneurs.

The 24-year old Montrealer is the creator of DogSync, a free iPhone app designed to help families better manage their dog’s care…
…Market research firm Packaged Facts estimates that Americans spent $71.4 billion on pet supplies & services in 2013 alone…
DogSync, which is still in beta testing mode, has accrued a modest 3,300 users so far- about half of whom live in the United States…
‘Dog owners are very funny. We’re crazy,’ Syne continues. 'We willingly take an animal into our house, that we know will cost a tonne of money & all we get back is love.’…
‘From cage- free poultry, nest-laid eggs, ranch- raised meats, & wild-caught fish to sun ripened fruits & vegetables, our fresh ingredients are raised locally, passed fit for human consumption & delivered to our kitchens fresh, preservative-free, & loaded with goodness.’…
The above excerpt describes Orijen & Acana, two pet food brands made by Alberta’s Champion Petfoods…
A 28-pound bag of Orijen Regional Red dry kibble for dogs…costs $93.99 before taxes…
Even at those prices, pet food only makes up one-third of Canada’s $6.6 billion pet-supply market, second to veterinary care & services…
Linda Zago owns Muzo Inc., a pet hotel & resort in St.- Henri near the Lachine Canal. Some dogs visit almost every day while their owners are at work; others spend weeks at Muzo while the owners travel…
The facility boats indoor & outdoor play areas, as well as junior, standard, luxury, & presidential suites for dogs, ranging from $46 to $85 a day. The dogs also get three 10-minute walks along the Lachine Canal a day. Additional private walks, individual or group playtime, & services like grooming & teeth-brushing are a la carte…
Eve Sabon offers a similar service with her company, DoggyDay Pet Services. Instead of a centralized facility, she has a network of cat & dog boarders around the city who can take on a cat or dog for a fee while the owner is away…”
